When you look at the night sky you notice that nothing really changes, the planets move in their orbit, comets appear and then disappear, everything happens fairly slowly. You might see an unblinking, steady light travelling across the sky; this is an artificial satellite. Occasionally you might see a bright flash - this is a meteor or shooting star.
